Alamat

Background

Alamat, a Filipino pop (P-pop) boy group, is known for its unique approach to blending Filipino culture, languages, and modern pop influences. Formed under the independent label Viva Artists Agency in collaboration with Ninuno Media, Alamat was created with a vision to highlight Filipino identity and regional pride, setting them apart in the P-pop industry. Since their debut in 2021, Alamat has embraced a multi-lingual approach in their music, featuring lyrics in various Philippine languages, including Tagalog, Bisaya, Ilocano, and Kapampangan. Their discography showcases themes of national pride, love, and social awareness.

Formation and Training: Alamat was formed through a casting process that sought to create a culturally diverse group that could represent various Filipino regions and languages. This concept was unique in P-pop and became one of the group’s core elements. The members trained extensively before making their official debut.

Debut Single: Alamat officially debuted on February 14, 2021, with the single “kbye.” The song’s lyrics mixed several Philippine languages, and the music video showcased cultural elements from different regions, including traditional clothing and dances. This song became an instant hit for its fresh and distinctly Filipino take on P-pop, quickly gaining a strong following.

Follow-Up Releases and Rising Popularity. Following their debut, Alamat released notable songs like “Porque” (a Chavacano cover), “Sandigan” (a patriotic anthem), and “ABKD” (addressing social issues), which solidified their image as cultural ambassadors in the P-pop scene. These songs and its accompanying music video emphasized the importance of community and highlighted various Filipino traditions,

First Extended Play. In October 2022, Alamat released their first EP, Pasulong (meaning “Moving Forward”), which marked a significant step in their musical evolution. The EP featured a mix of musical styles and included songs like “Aswang” and “Ily Ily,” blending pop, hip-hop, and R&B with Filipino folklore and cultural elements. The album showcased Alamat’s versatility and growth as artists, while staying true to their mission of celebrating Filipino heritage.

Continuing Growth. In January 2023, Alamat released “Maharani”, marking a stylistic evolution for Alamat, blending traditional Filipino sounds with modern pop influences. The song’s title, which means “queen,” is a tribute to women’s strength and elegance, resonating deeply with fans. “Maharani” continued the group’s tradition of integrating Filipino elements in their music while experimenting with new styles.

Promoting Filipino Culture. Alamat has stayed true to their commitment of highlighting Filipino culture, setting themselves apart by using multiple Philippine languages in their songs, incorporating regional attire and folklore, and addressing issues meaningful to Filipinos. Their approach has not only enriched the P-pop scene but also allowed them to become a cultural phenomenon and a source of pride for fans across the Philippines.
